Lawn Dogs

Drama  United Kingdom

Lawn Dogs is a 1997 drama film directed by John Duigan and stars Sam Rockwell as Trent, the young lawnmower man who forms an unlikely friendship with a 10-year-old girl named Devon (Mischa Barton). Devon is the daughter of Claire (Kathleen Quinlan) and Sean (Christopher McDonald), a wealthy couple living in the affluent, gated community of Camelot Gardens.

Trent, who comes from a working-class background, observes the infidelities and hypocrisies of the wealthy residents of Camelot Gardens. He forms a bond with Devon, who is struggling to fit in with her own privileged peers. As their friendship deepens, Trent becomes more protective of Devon, even as her parents become increasingly suspicious and hostile towards him.

Despite the class divide between them, Trent and Devon find common ground in their shared experiences of oppression and neglect. As the film progresses, they both confront the realities of their separate worlds, and the consequences of their choices.

Lawn Dogs is a powerful examination of class, power, and privilege in contemporary society, and a poignant reminder of the resilience and strength of those who are often marginalized and exploited.
