Last of the Renegades is a German western film released in 1964 and directed by Harald Reinl. It is the sequel to the 1963 film Winnetou - 1. Teil (Winnetou: The Apache Knight).
The film takes place in the American Old West and follows the story of Old Shatterhand (played by Lex Barker), a former frontiersman turned author, and his Apache blood brother Winnetou (played by Pierre Brice) as they attempt to prevent oil tycoon Forester (played by Klaus Kinski) from pitting the Native American tribes against the white settlers.
Forester seeks to provoke a war between the two groups in order to obtain drilling rights on Indian territories. He employs the notorious bandit Santer (played by Rik Battaglia) to execute his plan and sabotage any attempts at peace.
Old Shatterhand, Winnetou, and their loyal comrade Castlepool (played by Ralf Wolter) team up with the Native American tribes to stop Forester's plan and save their land from destruction.
The film was shot in Croatia, Italy, and Spain and features stunning landscapes and breathtaking action sequences. It is based on the novel by German author Karl May, who is known for his western literature and created the iconic characters of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand.
Last of the Renegades, like its predecessor, was a box office success in Europe and helped establish the Winnetou film series as a beloved classic of German cinema.
