Last of the Dogmen is a 1995 Western adventure film directed by Tab Murphy. The story follows bounty hunter Lewis Gates, played by Tom Berenger, who is hired to track down three prison escapees in the Montana wilderness. While on the hunt, he comes across a secluded valley where he encounters a group of Native American Dog Soldiers, a legendary tribe of Cheyenne warriors believed to have disappeared in the 19th century.
As Gates tries to communicate with the Dog Soldiers, he discovers that they are unaware of the changes and modernization of the outside world. He also meets a female Native American history professor, Lillian Sloan, played by Barbara Hershey, who has been researching the tribe's disappearance. Together they learn more about the Dog Soldiers and their way of life, as well as uncovering secrets about the tribe's past.
As Gates and Sloan spend more time with the Dog Soldiers, they begin to question their motives for bringing the escaped prisoners to justice and contemplate staying in the valley to continue learning about the tribe and protecting their way of life. But their time in the valley is cut short when the escaped prisoners track them down, putting everyone's lives in danger.
The film ultimately explores themes of cultural differences, preservation of tradition, and the impact of modernization on indigenous cultures. With stunning Montana vistas and a touching storyline, Last of the Dogmen is a captivating and thought-provoking film.
