Lake Placid is a 1999 horror-comedy movie directed by Steve Miner and written by David E. Kelley. The movie features an ensemble cast including Bill Pullman as Jack Wells, a wildlife resources officer; Bridget Fonda as Kelly Scott, a paleontologist; Oliver Platt as Hector Cyr, an eccentric millionaire; and Brendan Gleeson as Sheriff Hank Keough.

The story revolves around a series of mysterious and gruesome deaths that occur near the fictional Black Lake in Maine. Jack is sent to investigate and discovers that a massive crocodile is responsible for the killings. He teams up with Kelly and Hector to capture the creature and prevent any further casualties. However, as they progress in their search, they realize that capturing the crocodile won't be easy as it is intelligent and far more dangerous than they ever anticipated.

The team is also met with opposition from local residents who are skeptical about their claims and don't believe in the existence of such a creature. Jack and the others also face danger from corrupt game hunters who are after the crocodile.

As the movie progresses, the team's hunt for the crocodile leads to nail-biting and gruesome encounters, including a scene where a diver is pulled underwater and another where the team nearly falls victim to a bomb meant for the crocodile.

Lake Placid received mixed reviews upon release but was a commercial success, grossing over $56 million worldwide. It has since become a cult classic and has spawned several sequels.
