Labor Day

Drama  United States of America

Labor Day is a 2013 film directed by Jason Reitman and based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Maynard. It stars Kate Winslet as Adele, Josh Brolin as Frank, and Gattlin Griffith as Henry.

The movie is set in the small town of Holton Mills, New Hampshire, in the 1980s. Adele is a depressed single mom who has been struggling to raise her son Henry since her husband left her. Henry is a shy and introverted 13-year-old boy who is struggling to understand the complexities of growing up.

On the eve of Labor Day, while they are out shopping for school supplies, they encounter Frank, a wounded and intimidating man who asks for a ride. Adele, who is initially hesitant, eventually agrees and takes Frank back to her house. As they spend the holiday weekend together, Adele and Henry learn more about Frank's true identity and past.

Through a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that Frank is a convicted murderer who had escaped from prison. He had been injured during his escape and needed a place to hide and heal. While initially afraid of Frank, Adele and Henry soon realize that he is not the monster they had initially thought him to be.

As the weekend progresses, Adele and Frank begin to develop a romantic relationship, and Frank teaches Henry how to become a man. However, their idyllic weekend comes to an end as the police start closing in on Frank, putting their newfound happiness in jeopardy.

Overall, Labor Day is a poignant and emotionally charged film that explores the complexities of human relationships and the choices we make in life. It is a touching story of love and redemption, and how unexpected events and people can change our lives forever.
