La Influencia is a Spanish-language horror film directed by Denis Rovira van Boekholt, and released on Netflix in 2019. The movie is set in a remote village in Northern Spain, where the Faraday family, consisting of matriarch Queenie, her daughter Leonor, and granddaughters Alicia and Sara, has returned to Queenie's old mansion after her death.
As the family members begin to unpack and make themselves comfortable, they start to experience strange phenomena and disturbing visions, which seem to be connected to Queenie's ghostly presence. Alicia, who is a nurse, also starts to notice that some of the villagers seem to be suffering from a mysterious condition, which she comes to suspect is linked to Queenie's evil legacy.
As the Faraday women delve deeper into the secrets of their family history, they discover that Queenie had engaged in witchcraft and black magic, and that her malevolent influence continues to haunt the village and its inhabitants. The family also has to confront their own dark past, as they come to terms with the harm and trauma that Queenie had inflicted on them.
La Influencia is both a psychological thriller and a supernatural horror movie, and features strong performances from its cast, particularly from Manuela Vellés as Alicia and Emma Suárez as Leonor. The film's atmospheric setting and tension-building pacing also add to its overall creepy and unsettling feel.
