The film opens with a group of scientists who have made a major discovery. They have managed to obtain a sample of extraterrestrial DNA, which they are hoping to harness for medical purposes. However, when one of the scientists injects the DNA into a gorilla named Konga, things quickly go awry. Konga grows to an astonishing size and breaks free from his cage.
Lost and alone in the city, Konga meets two young boys named Timmy and Jimmy. The boys are awed by the giant ape, and they quickly form a bond with him. However, as Konga starts to wreak havoc on the city, the boys realize that they must find a way to stop him before the military does.
As the boys try to help their new friend, they discover that there may be a way to reverse the effects of the alien DNA and return Konga to his normal size. With the help of another scientist, they set out to find a cure and save the giant gorilla before it's too late.
