In Kinky Boots, Charles Price is played by Joel Edgerton, while Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Lola. Together, they embark on a journey to save Price & Sons Shoes, a traditional men's footwear company in Northampton. The film is based on a true story, with the real-life Price & Sons undergoing a similar transition in the late 1990s.
As Charles and Lola work together to create niche fetish footwear for men, they are met with resistance from some of the company's conservative employees. However, their efforts ultimately pay off, as the new product line becomes a hit with customers. Along the way, Charles and Lola develop a close friendship and learn to overcome their personal struggles.
Kinky Boots received critical acclaim upon its release in 2005 and was nominated for several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Original Song for the title song "Kinky Boots". In 2019, the film was adapted into a Broadway musical, which has since gone on to win multiple Tony Awards.
