King Arthur is a 2004 British-American epic historical drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by David Franzoni. The film is based on the 'Sarmatian hypothesis', which suggests that the Arthurian legend has a historical basis in the Sarmatian heavy cavalry troops who were stationed in Britain and led by the Roman-British military commander, Lucius Artorius Castus.
The movie tells the story of Arthur, a Roman-British soldier who commands a troop of Sarmatian knights that have served the Roman Empire since childhood. They are given one final mission to rescue a Roman family trapped in a dangerous and cursed territory beyond Hadrian’s Wall. Along the way, they face fierce opposition from the Saxons led by Cerdic, who is intent on taking control of Britain.
