Killer Joe is a dark comedy crime thriller directed by William Friedkin and starring Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church, and Gina Gershon. The film follows Chris Smith (Hirsch), a young man who owes money to a drug lord named Digger Soames. To pay off his debt, Chris hatches a plan with his father Ansel (Church) to hire Killer Joe Cooper (McConaughey), a police detective who also works as a hitman, to kill his estranged mother and collect her life insurance policy.
However, Killer Joe demands upfront payment, which they don't have. So, he decides to bargain with Chris and offers to perform the hit in exchange for custody of his innocent and sexually inexperienced young sister Dottie (Temple). Chris agrees, and Killer Joe proceeds to seduce Dottie. But as the violent and twisted events unfold, it becomes clear that no one will come out unscathed.
Killer Joe is a disturbing and intense film that delves into themes of greed, family dysfunction, and sexual manipulation.
