Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is a 2003 American martial arts film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film stars Uma Thurman as "The Bride," a former member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad who is shot and left for dead by her own colleagues, including Bill (David Carradine). After awakening from a coma four years later, she sets out on a mission of revenge to kill all those responsible for her attempted murder, including Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), Budd (Michael Madsen), and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah).

The film is divided into chapters, with each chapter depicting The Bride's quest to eliminate one of her former colleagues. The action is set to an eclectic soundtrack that features a mix of Western and Eastern-inspired music, including Ennio Morricone's theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)." The film also features a number of nods and references to various martial arts films, including Bruce Lee's Game of Death and Lady Snowblood.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 received critical acclaim for its stylized violence, visual and sound effects, and performances from the cast. It was also a commercial success, grossing over $180 million worldwide. The film was followed by a sequel, Kill Bill: Vol. 2, in 2004.
