Kesari is an Indian historical action war drama film that was released in 2019. The movie is based on the true story of the Battle of Saragarhi, which took place in 1897 between the Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and the Afghan army.
The film revolves around Havildar Ishar Singh, a soldier in the 36th Sikh Regiment, who is stationed at the Saragarhi fortress, along with his fellow soldiers. In September 1897, a group of 10,000 Afghan tribesmen attacked the fort in a bid to take control of the strategic location.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, the 21 Sikh soldiers led by Singh decided to fight till their last breath and defend the fort. The battle which lasted for several hours saw the Sikh soldiers using their superior weapons and tactics to hold off the Afghan attackers.
The film showcases the bravery and valor of the Sikh soldiers who despite facing impossible odds, managed to defend the fort and prevent it from falling into enemy hands. The film also highlights the strong camaraderie and brotherhood that existed among the Sikh soldiers.
Kesari is directed by Anurag Singh and features Akshay Kumar in the lead role of Havildar Ishar Singh. The movie was a critical and commercial success at the box office and was praised for its depiction of the extraordinary display of courage and bravery by the Sikh soldiers.
