Kazaam is a 1996 American family comedy-fantasy film directed by Paul Michael Glaser, written by Christian Ford and Roger Soffer based on a story by Glaser, and starring Shaquille O'Neal as the title character, a 5,000-year-old genie who appears from a golden boombox after being discovered by Max Connor (played by Francis Capra), a young boy who is trying to evade a local gang of teenagers. Kazaam, who has been trapped inside the boom box since accidentally causing trouble 5,000 years ago, is initially resistant to granting Max's wishes, but eventually agrees to help him out after they strike a deal: Max will help Kazaam find a way to become free from the boom box in exchange for his three wishes.
As Max and Kazaam get to know each other, they form a bond and start to have fun together, with Kazaam using his powers to grant Max's wishes in unique and unexpected ways. However, their joyous time together is interrupted when Max's father, who is a struggling musician, gets in trouble with a powerful record executive who wants to steal his music. Max and Kazaam team up to save Max's father and stop the executive from stealing his music. Along the way, they encounter magical creatures and exciting adventures.
