Rise of the Karate Champion

Action  Italy

Karate Warrior is a martial arts action film released in 1987, directed by Fabrizio De Angelis. The movie features Anthony (played by Kim Rossi Stuart), a young man who travels to the Philippines to visit his father, who works as an expert in restoring old colonial houses. However, upon arrival, Anthony finds himself in the middle of a turf war between rival gangs, led by Quino (Jurek Ruta) and his enemy, a local crime boss named Winnie.

As part of the gang war, Quino organizes a karate tournament in which he competes. Anthony, who is a skilled practitioner of martial arts, also participates in the tournament. He catches the attention of Quino, who mocks him in front of the crowd. Anthony responds by defeating Quino in a sparring match but humiliates him by showing off his skills and making fun of him.

Enraged and embarrassed, Quino later ambushes Anthony and his friend and nearly kills them both. The old monk (played by Ken Watanabe), finds them lying injured and takes them to his monastery, where he nurses them and teaches Anthony the ways of martial arts. The monk also tells Anthony that he must leave his anger and ego behind and focus on inner peace and balance if he wishes to overcome Quino.

With his newfound skills and discipline, Anthony returns to take on Quino in a final showdown. In an action-packed battle, Anthony defeats Quino but does not kill him, instead, he shows mercy and lets him go. The movie ends with Anthony returning to Italy and his father's house, leaving behind a new love interest in the Philippines.

Karate Warrior is a typical martial arts movie of its time, with plenty of action and fighting sequences. However, the movie also emphasizes the connection between martial arts and inner discipline, and the importance of respect and honor. Overall, Karate Warrior is an entertaining martial arts movie that showcases the talents of its cast and crew.
