Kandisha

Horror  France

Kandisha is a horror film directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury. The film takes place in a housing project in Montpellier, France, and follows three teenage girls Amélie, Bintou, and Morjana who perform a ritual to invoke the spirit of Kandisha.

Kandisha is a mythical and vengeful spirit from Moroccan folklore who punishes men who have wronged women. The girls perform the ritual out of boredom and curiosity but soon realize the grave mistake they have made.

Their friend Reda tries to warn them about the consequences of summoning Kandisha, but it's too late. As the spirit begins to manifest itself, the girls start experiencing terrifying encounters, and their loved ones begin to disappear.

The girls must find a way to stop Kandisha before it's too late. But the ghostly spirit is determined to seek revenge, and the girls must confront their deepest fears to survive.

The film mixes traditional horror elements with themes of female empowerment and friendship. It also explores the intersection of different cultures and beliefs and the consequences of disrespecting ancient traditions.

Kandisha stars Samarcande Saadi, Sandor Funtek, and Mathilde La Musse and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2020.
