Kalank is a Bollywood movie directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar. The movie features an ensemble cast including Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha.
The movie is set in the 1940s, in the fictional town of Hussainabad near Lahore (now in present-day Pakistan). The Chaudhry family is one of the wealthiest and most respected families in the town. Roop Chaudhry (Alia Bhatt) is forced into marriage with Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur) due to family circumstances. However, Roop falls in love with Zafar (Varun Dhawan), a blacksmith and a talented musician from Hira Mandi, a red-light district in the town.
The movie explores the complexities of relationships between individuals from different social backgrounds, class divides, and the societal norms that shape and influence their behavior. It also delves into the theme of sacrifice, which is a recurring motif throughout the movie.
