Kagemusha, which translates to "Shadow Warrior," was released in 1980 and is considered one of Akira Kurosawa's greatest films. It stars Tatsuya Nakadai as both Shingen and the thief who becomes his double.
The film is set in the late 16th century in feudal Japan, during a time of political turmoil and constant warfare between rival clans. Shingen is a powerful warlord who is determined to unite the warring factions and bring peace to the land. He is also known for his use of a double, or kagemusha, to protect him from assassination attempts.

The thief must lead the charge and prove himself worthy of the title of Shingen's successor. However, the stress and pressure of leading an army into battle take their toll, and the thief begins to crack under the weight of his responsibilities.
The film is praised for its stunning visuals, epic battle scenes, and nuanced exploration of identity and duty. Kurosawa's direction and Nakadai's performance are also widely admired, and the film is often cited as a masterpiece of Japanese cinema.
