Tommy Collins (played by Pauly Shore) is a slacker who has been unemployed for quite some time. He is desperate for money and a place to stay. When he discovers that sequestered jurors in a murder trial earn free room and board along with a daily payment of $5, he sees an opportunity to make some easy money.
Tommy tricks his way onto the jury panel and is sequestered with a group of other jurors in a hotel for the duration of the trial. True to form, Tommy quickly makes himself at home and enjoys the free food and amenities.
However, Tommy also realizes that if the jury reaches a verdict quickly, he will lose his free ride and have to return to his previous life of unemployment. Therefore, he intentionally does everything in his power to prolong the trial and delay the verdict.
Tommy's misbehavior leads to chaos as his fellow jurors struggle to deliberate effectively. However, as time goes on, Tommy begins to see the seriousness of the trial and starts to take his role more seriously.
As the case comes to a close, Tommy has to face up to his actions and decides to do the right thing. In the end, he helps the jury reach a verdict and redeems himself.
Jury Duty is a comedy movie that provides a humorous take on the jury system while also touching on serious themes such as justice, responsibility, and redemption.
