Jumanji is a 1995 American adventure fantasy film directed by Joe Johnston and based on the children's book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. The film stars Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, alongside Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, and Bonnie Hunt. The film tells the story of two siblings who discover an enchanted board game, Jumanji, which unleashes a world of adventure and danger when they start to play it.
When Alan was a young boy, he discovered the game in 1969 and became trapped inside it for 26 years until he is released by Judy and Peter. The trio must then play the game to completion in order to stop the dangerous creatures and natural disasters that the game unleashes. Along the way, they face various challenges such as stampeding elephants, giant spiders, and an evil hunter named Van Pelt who seeks to kill them.
As the game progresses, the trio starts to uncover clues about unlocking the game's power and completing it. However, the stakes become increasingly high when Peter is captured by Van Pelt and Alan must face his childhood fears in order to save him. Ultimately, they finish the game, freeing Alan from his 26-year imprisonment and returning the world to normal.
Jumanji received mixed reviews upon its release but achieved commercial success, grossing over $260 million worldwide. It also spawned a franchise with several sequels and an animated series, including the 2017 film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
