Julie & Julia is a 2009 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Nora Ephron. The film is based on two true stories: one about the life of Julia Child, a pioneering chef who introduced French cuisine to the American public; and the other about Julie Powell, a young woman who started a blog chronicling her attempts to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child's cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year.

The film follows the parallel stories of Child (played by Meryl Streep) and Powell (played by Amy Adams). Child's story is set in the 1950s and 1960s, as she studies at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris and later teams up with two other women to write "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Powell's story is set in the early 2000s, as she struggles to find meaning in her life and decides to embark on her cooking project.

As both women wrestle with personal and professional challenges, the film explores themes of identity, creativity, and perseverance. Through their shared love of food and cooking, Child and Powell inspire each other and ultimately find a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

In addition to Streep and Adams, the film features a strong supporting cast, including Stanley Tucci as Child's husband Paul, Chris Messina as Powell's husband Eric, and Jane Lynch as Powell's friend and editor. The film received generally positive reviews and was a box office success, grossing over $129 million worldwide.
