The elderly suburbanite, Jules, has always lived a quiet, solitary life since his wife's passing and is prone to forgetting things. One day, he notices strange lights in his backyard and goes to investigate. To his surprise, he finds a flying saucer, and a scared alien inside, who seems to be lost and in distress.
Jules tries to help the alien, who he later names Zara, but he soon discovers that the government is looking for the UFO. They want to capture it and dissect it to learn more about the aliens. Jules knows he must protect Zara from the government's prying eyes.
Jules and Zara develop a friendship and bond over time. Jules even teaches Zara about human culture and customs. Meanwhile, the government's search for the UFO intensifies, and Jules finds himself in danger of being caught.
As Jules and Zara's relationship deepens, they both come to realize that they have much in common. They share a love for adventure and experiencing new things, both never having experienced the world beyond their familiar surroundings. They both also have a fear of the unknown, but with each other's support, they overcome their fears.
The movie culminates in a heartwarming ending, where Jules and Zara must say goodbye as the alien must return to her home planet. Jules is left with a renewed zest for life, having found a new friend and an appreciation for the wonders of the universe.
