Joyful Noise is a musical comedy-drama film released in 2012. It stars Dolly Parton as G.G. Sparrow, the leader of a small-town gospel choir in Georgia, and Queen Latifah as Vi Rose Hill, a recent widow who has reluctantly taken over as the choir director. The choir is preparing to compete at the National Joyful Noise Competition in Los Angeles and tensions begin to rise between G.G. and Vi Rose over the choir's direction.
G.G. Sparrow is a traditionalist who believes in sticking to the tried and true, while Vi Rose Hill is more open to new ideas. Their differences cause conflict among the choir members, especially after Vi Rose's son Randy (Jeremy Jordan) joins the group and brings a more contemporary sound.
As the choir prepares to compete, personal struggles and family drama threaten to tear them apart. G.G.'s grandson, Walter (Dexter Darden), is struggling with Asperger's syndrome, while Vi Rose's daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer), rebels against her mother's strict rule and falls in love with Randy.
Despite the challenges, the choir comes together and puts on a show-stopping performance at the competition, winning the hearts of the judges and the audience. In the end, G.G. and Vi Rose reconcile their differences and everyone celebrates with a joyful rendition of "Man in the Mirror".
