Journey to the Forbidden Valley follows the story of a young Chinese boy named Ling and his American guardian, Andrew. The two are on a small airplane traveling over the Shennongjia mountains in Central China when their plane crash lands, leaving them stranded in the wilderness.
As they try to find their way back to civilization, they begin to encounter strange and eerie creatures that they can't explain. Soon enough, they discover that they have stumbled upon the mysterious and legendary Yeren, an ape-like creature that has reportedly been living in the mountains for centuries.
As they try to survive and find their way home, they must navigate dangerous terrain and ultimately make a decision about what to do with the Yeren when they discover that ruthless poachers are approaching with the intention of capturing it for profit. The film intertwines themes of adventure, morality and the importance of protecting rare species and endangered animals.
