Sean Anderson, a teenager who is obsessed with adventure and exploration, receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island that doesn't exist on any map. He sets out on a mission to find the island, and his mother's boyfriend, Hank, agrees to accompany him. They hire a helicopter pilot, Gabato, and his daughter, Kailani, to take them to the island.
When they arrive on the island, they discover that it is not only real but also a world of wonder and danger. The island is home to many strange and exotic creatures, including giant bees, electric eels, and a massive whale. They soon realize that Sean's grandfather, Alexander, is the one who sent the coded distress signal, and he has been living on the island for years.
Alexander reveals that he has been studying the island's secrets and believes that there is a way to return home with the help of the island's volcanic activity. However, they only have a limited amount of time before the island sinks back into the sea.
The group encounters many obstacles on their journey, including a tribe of natives who are trying to protect the island's secrets and a spectacular escape from a massive sinkhole.
