Jolene

Jolene is a drama film based on a short story by E.L. Doctorow. The film follows the life of Jolene, a young girl who is orphaned at the age of 15 and ends up in a juvenile detention center. After she is released, Jolene embarks on a decade-long journey through various parts of the United States, experiencing the ups and downs of life.

Throughout her travels, Jolene encounters various people, including a wealthy older man who becomes her first love, a drug dealer who helps her escape from police, and a woman who introduces her to the world of exotic dancing. Jolene also experiences heartbreak, abuse, poverty, and addiction as she tries to navigate life on her own.

Despite the challenges she faces, Jolene remains resilient and determined to survive. She eventually settles down and finds some stability in her life, but the scars of her past remain with her. The film explores themes such as love, loss, identity, and the impact of one's past on their present and future.

Jolene stars Jessica Chastain in the title role, and also features performances by Frances Fisher, Dermot Mulroney, and Chazz Palminteri. The film was directed by Dan Ireland and was released in 2008.
