Johnny Suede is a 1991 independent film directed by Tom DiCillo. The movie follows the titular character, Johnny, as he struggles to make ends meet as a struggling musician in New York City. Johnny is a huge fan of Ricky Nelson and desperately wants to be just like him.
One day, Johnny purchases a pair of suede shoes from a mysterious salesman that he believes will help him fulfill his dreams. He begins to wear the shoes everywhere he goes, and soon meets Darlette, a woman who works at a nearby salon. The two quickly strike up a relationship and begin to work on music together.
As Johnny continues to pursue his dreams of becoming a rock star, he must navigate a series of obstacles, including a rival musician, a group of eccentric friends, and his own insecurities about his abilities. Along the way, he learns some valuable lessons about the true meaning of success and the importance of following one's passion.
