Johnny Grissom is a troublemaker in high school, known for his rebellious attitude and disregard for rules. One night, while on a drunken joyride with his best friend Eric, Johnny is killed in a horrible car accident. Eric is devastated by the loss of his friend and struggles to come to terms with his own role in the accident.
But then, strange things start to happen. Johnny's classmates, who were involved in the accident in some way, start turning up dead, each one killed in a gruesome and violent way. Eric begins to suspect that Johnny has returned from the grave to seek revenge on those who wronged him.
As the body count rises and the fear in the small town grows, Eric becomes increasingly convinced that Johnny is behind the murders. But can he stop his undead friend before it's too late? Or will he become the next victim of Johnny Gruesome?
