Johnny Cool is a 1963 crime thriller directed by William Asher. The film stars Henry Silva as Johnny Cool, a former gangster who is deported to Italy after a failed attempt to assassinate a mob boss. In Italy, Johnny is recruited by an exiled American gangster, Charlie, and they become partners in crime.
Charlie has a plan to take revenge on the people who betrayed him in America. He trains Johnny to be his successor and sends him back to the U.S. with a new identity. Johnny transforms himself into a suave and debonair playboy named Giordano, who quickly gains the trust of the upper echelons of the American underworld.
Giordano starts to eliminate Charlie's enemies one by one, but his ultimate target is a powerful mob boss named Salvatore "Sally" Mitola. Giordano seduces Mitola's mistress, Dare Guiness (played by Elizabeth Montgomery), to gain access to Mitola's inner circle. Meanwhile, he also falls in love with Dare and starts to question his commitment to Charlie's mission.
As the plot thickens, Giordano must navigate a treacherous web of deceit, betrayal, and violence to achieve his objectives. He realizes that he has become caught in a dangerous game of power and greed, where loyalty is a scarce commodity.
Johnny Cool blends elements of a classic film noir with the traditions of the Italian spaghetti western. The movie boasts a stylishly atmospheric score by Billy May and a cast that includes such notable actors as Richard Anderson, Mort Sahl, and Telly Savalas.
