The movie begins with Jimmy inventing new gadgets and machines with his best friend, Carl Wheezer. Jimmy is determined to win the science fair, believing it will finally make him cool. However, his persistent, overachieving behavior makes him the target of bullies, Nick Dean and his gang.
One day, while searching for alien signals with his homemade satellite dishes, Jimmy and his robot dog, Goddard, pick up a message from deep space. To his surprise, he discovers that the message came from a planet named Yolkian, inviting all the parents on Earth for a free vacation. Excited to finally have a break from their kids, the parents leave for the vacation, unknowingly entering a trap set by the aliens.
Soon after, Jimmy and the children of the world realize that all their parents have disappeared. They team up to rescue them and head to Yolkian with the help of Jimmy's latest invention, a spaceship. On the planet, Jimmy and his friends face various challenges, such as robots and alien creatures, but they manage to save their parents just in time before Yolkian explodes.
In the end, Jimmy learns that being cool is not about impressing others but using his intelligence to make a positive difference. The children of the world and their parents are reunited, and everyone celebrates their safe return to Earth.
