In Jesse Stone: Night Passage, Jesse Stone (played by Tom Selleck) is fired from his job as a police officer in Los Angeles due to his drinking problem. He then moves to the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts, where he is hired as a police chief by the town council.
As he begins settling into his new job and life, he is approached by a wealthy businessman named Hampton Roth (played by Saul Rubinek) who wants to hire him as a private investigator. But when Roth's assistant is found dead, Stone discovers that Roth's business dealings may be tied to organized crime.
Meanwhile, Stone becomes involved with a woman named Abby Taylor (played by Stephanie March) and her young daughter, who are being stalked by Abby's abusive ex-husband. Stone also has to contend with the town's corrupt mayor (played by Stephen McHattie) and his own attempts to stay sober.
As Stone investigates the murder and Roth's shady dealings, he begins to unravel a web of deceit and corruption that goes all the way to the top. Along the way, he is forced to confront his own demons and make some tough choices about his future.
