Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds - The New Generation: Alive on Stage! is a musical adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic science fiction novel, The War of the Worlds. It features a live orchestra, a large cast of performers, and new technology including 3D holography and a 35ft Martian Fighting Machine.
The story follows the invasion of Earth by Martians, who arrive in England and begin a ruthless attack on humanity. The musical adaptation features songs and music written by Jeff Wayne, and includes famous tracks such as "The Eve of the War," "Forever Autumn," and "Thunder Child."
The all-star cast includes Liam Neeson as the journalist narrator, Marti Pellow as the Artilleryman, Jason Donovan as Parson Nathaniel, Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs as The Voice of Humanity, Will Stapleton of Jetblack as the Voice of the Martians, and Kerry Ellis, who played Elphaba in the original West End production of Wicked, as Beth, the Parson's Wife.
The stage production was filmed live at London's O2 Arena in 2012, and was released as a DVD and Blu-ray in 2013. The show has been praised for its innovative use of technology, and has been described as a "musical multi-media extravaganza."
