In the movie Jaws, Amity Island is a small town that relies heavily on its summer tourism industry. However, when a young woman is killed by a great white shark while swimming in the ocean, panic spreads among the locals and tourists alike.
Police Chief Martin Brody, played by Roy Scheider, initially wants to close the beaches to keep people safe, but the town's mayor, desperate to avoid losing revenue, insists that they remain open. When more people are attacked by the shark, including a young boy, Brody decides enough is enough and enlists the help of shark expert Matt Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss.
Together, Brody and Hooper try to track down the shark and kill it, but they face resistance from local fishermen, who believe that the shark is worth more alive than dead. Quint, a grizzled shark hunter played by Robert Shaw, eventually joins the group, and the three men set off on a dangerous mission to hunt down the great white and save the town.
Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1975, is considered a classic film and is credited with helping to establish the modern summer blockbuster. The movie's suspenseful score, composed by John Williams, has become iconic and is often replicated in other films to build tension and fear.
