In the opening scene, FBI agents set up a sting operation to capture Jason Voorhees at Crystal Lake. After a intense shootout, Jason is finally killed by a special task force armed with explosives. However, his body disappears and his remains are soon discovered by a coroner who is possessed by Jason's evil spirit. The coroner consumes Jason's heart, which causes him to become possessed by the spirit of Jason and begin a new spree of killings.

As the body count rises, Steven Freeman, the estranged brother of the protagonist in the fourth installment of the franchise, becomes embroiled in the chaos. Jason's spirit eventually takes control of his sister Diana’s body and begins hunting her infant daughter, Jessica. Steven and Jessica's father, Robert Campbell, join forces to stop Jason once and for all.

The film's climax takes place on the Voorhees family property, where it is revealed that only a member of Jason's bloodline can kill him for good. Diana's mother, Mrs. Voorhees, makes an appearance as a ghost to explain the true nature of Jason's powers. Steven and Jessica pool their shared Voorhees blood to finally send Jason to Hell.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday was intended as a reboot for the long-running Friday the 13th franchise, but ultimately failed to spark a new series of films. Despite mixed reviews, the film is notable for its creative kills and attempts to expand the lore of the Jason Voorhees character.
