In the movie, Jakob is portrayed as a kind-hearted and compassionate man who befriends many people in the ghetto, including Liliana, a young girl who looks up to him as a father figure. Despite the harsh living conditions and constant danger, Jakob tries to maintain his sense of humor and optimism.
When he overhears the radio broadcast, Jakob sees an opportunity to give hope to his fellow ghetto residents by spreading the false rumor of a secret radio. As word spreads and people begin to believe that there is a way to communicate with the outside world, their spirits are lifted and their morale improves.
However, the rumor also attracts the attention of the German authorities, who become suspicious that there may be activity in the ghetto that they are not aware of. Gestapo officer Kowalski begins to investigate the rumor, and Jakob finds himself caught in a dangerous game of deception and conspiracy.
Throughout the movie, Jakob struggles with the moral implications of his actions and the difficult choices he must make to protect himself and those he cares about. As tensions in the ghetto rise and the threat of deportation to the concentration camps looms, Jakob must find the strength to keep hope alive and fight for survival.
