Jailhouse Rock is a 1957 musical drama film starring Elvis Presley as Vince Everett, a young man who is imprisoned for manslaughter after getting into a bar fight. While in prison, he meets a former country singer named Hunk Houghton (played by Mickey Shaughnessy), who teaches him how to play the guitar.
After his release from prison, Vince starts performing at local clubs and catches the eye of Peggy Van Alden (played by Judy Tyler), a record producer who helps him become a rock star. Along the way, Vince struggles with his newfound fame and the pressures that come with it, including encounters with ruthless record executives and a love triangle with Peggy and her business partner.
