Jailbreak Pact

Thriller  Chile

Jailbreak Pact, also known as Pacto de Fuga in Spanish, is a Chilean historical drama film directed by David Albala. The movie tells the true story of the escape of 49 political prisoners from the high-security prison of Santiago, Chile in 1990 during the final days of the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet.

The escape was meticulously planned over a period of 18 months by a group of prisoners, who dug a tunnel that was almost 80 meters long. The tunnel was concealed behind a bookshelf in the prison library and led to a nearby house where the escapees were able to change their clothes and blend in with the local population.

The movie follows the lives of the prisoners leading up to their escape and the challenges they faced while digging the tunnel, including dealing with the prison guards and finding the necessary tools and materials for the construction.

Despite the dangerous and risky mission, the prisoners were able to successfully escape, with only a few being recaptured by the authorities. The escape is seen as a symbol of hope and resistance against the oppressive regime of Pinochet, and is considered one of the most daring and successful prison escapes in history.

Jailbreak Pact was released in Chile in 2020 and received critical acclaim for its depiction of the historical event. The movie features an ensemble cast including Benjamín Vicuña, Amparo Noguera, Roberto Farías, and Francisco Reyes.
