After Toby loses her job, she begins to volunteer at the local dog shelter and soon discovers a talent in rehabilitating rescued dogs. She decides to start her own non-profit in collaboration with the local prison, where the inmates help take care of the dogs and learn a new skill.
During her visits to the prison, Toby meets John, an inmate convicted of murder, who has a way with dogs and offers to assist in the rehabilitation program. The two develop a connection and begin to secretly see each other, risking Toby's reputation.
However, when John's appeal for parole is denied, they hatch a plan to break him out using one of the dog crates. They successfully make a run for it but find themselves on the run from the law.
As they try to evade the authorities, Toby and John navigate their relationship and confront the consequences of their actions. They are forced to make tough choices that will determine their future as they fight for their love and freedom.
