Jackie Brown is a 1997 crime thriller directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Pam Grier in the titular role. Set in Los Angeles, the film follows Jackie, a flight attendant for a small-time airline, who is caught smuggling money into the country for her boss, Ordell Robbie (played by Samuel L. Jackson), a gunrunner involved in a series of illegal activities.
As the police attempt to use Jackie to get to Ordell, she comes up with a plan to outsmart both the cops and Ordell by keeping the money for herself. With the help of a bail bondsman named Max Cherry (played by Robert Forster), Jackie begins to execute her scheme, which involves double-crosses, twists, and turns.
The film is based on the novel Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard and features an all-star cast, including Robert De Niro as Louis Gara, Ordell's friend and accomplice, Bridget Fonda as Melanie Ralston, a surfer girl who is also involved in the scheme, and Michael Keaton as ATF agent Ray Nicolette, who is determined to take down Ordell.
Jackie Brown received critical acclaim for its complex storyline, richly drawn characters, and clever dialogue.
