In the movie, Irving Zisman (played by Johnny Knoxville) takes his grandson Billy (played by Jackson Nicoll) on a road trip across America after the boy's mother goes to jail. The two travel to different states, meeting various characters along the way, including a beauty pageant and a biker gang.
