The Indeterminate Love Triangle

Comedy  United States of America

It's Pat is a 1994 comedy film based on a recurring character from Saturday Night Live. The film stars Julia Sweeney as Pat, a character whose gender and sexuality are purposely left ambiguous. Pat is a store clerk who loves gossiping about the lives of others and is generally abrasive and annoying to those around them.

One day, Pat meets Chris, a soft-spoken therapist working at a nearby mental health clinic. Although Pat is immediately attracted to Chris, their relationship is complicated by Pat's inability to define their own gender and sexuality. Chris is accepting of Pat's ambiguity but struggles with the lack of direction in Pat's life.

Meanwhile, Pat's neighbor Kyle becomes increasingly obsessed with figuring out Pat's gender and sexuality, even going so far as to install hidden cameras in Pat's apartment to spy on them. This obsession escalates throughout the film and ultimately leads to a confrontation with Pat.

As Pat and Chris continue to navigate their relationship, they both come to realize that Pat's gender and sexuality are not important in the grand scheme of things. The film ends with Pat and Chris walking off into the sunset, both content with living their lives without a clear label.
