After John Putnam and Ellen Fields witness the meteorite crash, they go to investigate and discover a large metallic object buried in the ground. Putnam becomes convinced that it is a spaceship and that there are extraterrestrial beings inside. He tries to convince the townspeople, but they are skeptical and dismiss him as a crackpot.
However, strange things begin to happen in the town, including disappearances of some of the residents. Putnam and Fields continue to investigate and soon realize that the aliens have started to take over the bodies of the townspeople. They must race against time to stop the aliens before they can take over the entire town and potentially the world.
The movie was released in 1953 and was directed by Jack Arnold. It starred Richard Carlson as Putnam and Barbara Rush as Fields. It was notable for being one of the first major science fiction movies to be filmed in 3D.
