Natalie, played by Rebel Wilson, realizes that she has become the protagonist of a rom-com when every aspect of her life suddenly becomes whimsical and over-the-top, filled with brightly colored set-pieces and ridiculous coincidences. She is pursued by a charming suitor, Blake, played by Liam Hemsworth, who is a wealthy and successful businessman. Her best friend, played by Adam Devine, who has been in love with her for years, now finds himself engaged to another woman, and her officemates, played by Betty Gilpin and Brandon Scott Jones, are caricatures of the typical rom-com side characters.
Natalie tries to find a way out of this surreal and clichéd world and return to reality, but she discovers that the only way to break the spell is to find true love.
