Iron Will is a 1994 American adventure film directed by Charles Haid. The movie is based on a true story of the 1917 Great Race of Mercy, which saw a group of brave men and their sled dogs deliver life-saving serum to the town of Nome, which was suffering from an epidemic of diphtheria.

In the movie, 17-year-old Will Stoneman (played by Mackenzie Astin) is left to fend for himself and his mother after his father dies. They live on a farm in South Dakota, but are struggling to pay the mortgage. Will decides to enter the Great Northern Dogsled Race, which offers a substantial cash prize to the winner.

The race is a grueling 522-mile trek across the frozen wilderness of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, and Will must contend with extreme cold, blizzards, treacherous terrain and fierce competition. But with the help of a veteran musher named Ned Dodd (played by August Schellenberg) and his team of loyal sled dogs, Will sets out to prove that he has what it takes to win.

As they race across the frozen landscape, Will and his sled dogs face one obstacle after another - icy rivers, steep cliffs, and even a pack of wolves - but they persevere through sheer determination and a relentless spirit. Along the way, Will also encounters a fellow racer named Jack Sheridan (played by Kevin Spacey), who plays dirty and tries to sabotage him at every turn.

Despite all the challenges he faces, Will refuses to give up, and with his eyes firmly fixed on the prize, he pushes himself and his dogs to their limits. The final stretch of the race is particularly nail-biting, as Will and Jack battle it out for first place, with everything on the line.

In the end, Will's courage and determination pay off, and he crosses the finish line first, earning the respect and admiration of his fellow racers and the entire community. The movie ends with Will returning home, victorious and proud, with his mother and Ned Dodd waiting to welcome him.
