Io & Marilyn is an unusual romantic comedy-drama that centers around the life of a divorced man called Io who works in a traveling circus. Io is obsessed with Marilyn Monroe and often imagines Marilyn is his spirit guide - she appears every time he meditates.
One day, during one of their shows, Io comes across a Ouija board, and starts communicating with Marilyn's spirit. With the help of some of his circus friends, they conduct a séance to bring Marilyn back to life.
To everyone's surprise, the seance seems to have worked. They manage to access Marilyn's spirit, but they can only see her appear to Io.
As Io spends more time with the spirit of Marilyn, he becomes enamored with her and starts falling in love. Io is convinced that he's the only one who can see Marilyn and starts to fear that he's losing his mind. He becomes depressed and starts to push away his friends, and is worried that his obsession with Marilyn will destroy his life in the circus.
Io eventually finds the strength to confront his feelings head-on, and confesses his love for Marilyn to the spirit that only he can see. Marilyn tells Io that he needs to let her go and live in the present.
