Invisible Ghost is a horror movie released in 1941, directed by Joseph H. Lewis. The story revolves around Dr. Charles Kessler (played by Bela Lugosi), a respected citizen in a small town who is being haunted by his deceased wife's ghost. However, the twist is that Kessler is not aware of his wife's death and believes that she has left him for another man.
Kessler is controlled by his loyal and scheming housekeeper, Mrs. Beedle (played by Betty Compson), who manipulates him to commit a series of murders, which he is unable to recollect. Meanwhile, Kessler's daughter Virginia (played by Polly Ann Young) returns from college and starts to suspect her father's strange behavior. She teams up with her fiancé Ralph (played by John McGuire) to investigate the ongoing murders and uncover the truth.
As the story progresses, it is revealed that Kessler's wife Emily (played by Betty Compson in a dual role) is not actually alive but has been secretly kept in the basement by Kessler's gardener, Evans (played by Clarence Muse). Emily had been involved in a car accident that led to her brain damage, and Kessler had been completely unaware of her condition.
The climax of the movie sees Kessler confronting his past and the truth about his wife's death. The movie is famous for its suspenseful plot twists and Bela Lugosi's captivating performance as the possessed Kessler.
