In the movie Inspector Gadget, John Brown, played by Matthew Broderick, is a hapless security guard who dreams of being a police officer. He is injured in an explosion orchestrated by the evil Dr. Claw, played by Rupert Everett, who is determined to take over the world.
John is saved by Brenda, a brilliant robotics surgeon played by Joely Fisher, who turns him into a cyborg with a variety of high-tech gadgets and abilities. He becomes a crime-fighting superhero known as Inspector Gadget, but struggles to control his new powers and gadgets.
With the help of his niece Penny, played by Michelle Trachtenberg, and her dog Brain, John sets out to track down Dr. Claw and stop him from carrying out his nefarious plans. Along the way, Inspector Gadget faces several challenges and battles Dr. Claw's minions, including the henchman Kramer, played by Andy Dick.
Despite his numerous mishaps and blunders, Inspector Gadget ultimately saves the day and becomes a hero in the eyes of the public. The movie ends with John being offered a job with the police force, but he decides to remain as Inspector Gadget and continue fighting crime with his trusted companions.
