Endless Sun: A Murder Investigation in the North

Crime,Mystery,Thriller  United States of America

Insomnia is a 2002 psychological thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank. The plot follows two homicide detectives from Los Angeles, Will Dormer (Pacino) and Hap Eckhart (Martin Donovan), who are sent to a small town in Alaska to help investigate the brutal murder of a local teen.

The detectives arrive during the summer, where the sun never sets due to the Arctic Circle's unique phenomenon, causing the detectives to suffer from insomnia. Dormer, who is struggling with his own personal demons, accidentally shoots his partner in the fog during the investigation. He decides to cover up the incident, but Walter Finch (Williams), the crime writer who committed the murder, witnessed the event and begins blackmailing Dormer, forcing him to manipulate the investigation and frame an innocent suspect.

As the investigation continues, Dormer becomes increasingly unstable, losing his grip on reality due to his insomnia and guilt. Meanwhile, he suspects that Finch is the killer but cannot prove it as Finch manages to stay one step ahead of him.

The film culminates in a gripping chase scene where Dormer pursues Finch through the foggy Alaskan wilderness, leading to a tragic confrontation. In the end, Dormer's guilt and lack of sleep catch up with him, and he learns the true cost of his actions.

Insomnia was a critical and commercial success, praised for its tense atmosphere, gripping storyline, and stellar performances. It was also noteworthy for being Nolan's first mainstream Hollywood film and for showcasing Williams' excellent ability to play against type as the villain.
