In Inland Empire, the actress, played by Laura Dern, is named Nikki Grace. She lands the lead role in a film called "On High in Blue Tomorrows," which is a remake of an unfinished Polish production called "47." The original film was said to be cursed, and everyone involved in the production died under mysterious circumstances.
As Nikki begins her work on "On High in Blue Tomorrows," her perception of reality becomes increasingly warped, and she has difficulty distinguishing between her own life and the character she's playing. She also finds herself growing increasingly attracted to her mysterious co-star, played by Justin Theroux.
