The film follows Cameron, the manic-depressive father, as he struggles to hold his family together after his wife Maggie decides to attend business school in New York City, leaving him to care for their two daughters, Amelia and Faith. Cameron is determined to prove to Maggie that he can be a good father and husband, despite his mental health struggles.
As Cameron tries to navigate the challenges of everyday life while dealing with his mood swings, the girls prove to be quite a handful. Amelia, the older daughter, is rebellious and headstrong, often challenging her father's authority. Faith, the younger daughter, is more sensitive and resents her mother for leaving them.
Despite his best efforts, Cameron's mental health begins to deteriorate, causing tension in the family. At the same time, Maggie struggles with her own guilt for leaving her daughters in Cameron's care. The family is forced to confront their issues and find a way to come together in order to heal and move forward.
Throughout the film, the audience witnesses the highs and lows of Cameron's struggle with bipolar disorder and his journey to become a better father and husband. As he bonds with his daughters and learns to control his emotions, Cameron ultimately proves that he is capable of taking care of his family and winning back Maggie's love and trust.
