Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) is a factory worker who lives in the poor Time Zone called Dayton. He is tired of struggling to survive and watches his mother die after running out of time. One day he meets a wealthy man who has centuries of time on his clock but chooses to die by suicide. Will Salas impulsively takes his time, suddenly becoming rich.
The sudden change of wealth puts Will on the radar of the Time Keepers, a powerful group of law enforcement officials who regulate the time in their society. The Time Keepers stop at nothing to keep the rich and poor in their designated zones. The corrupt police force believes that Will has stolen the time and begin to violently hunt him down.
Will Salas meets a wealthy daughter Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried), and the two bond over their respective situations. As they fall in love, Will and Sylvia try to change the system and make a stand against the corrupt Time Keepers.
The movie tells a compelling story about the injustice and inequality between social classes in a bleak future world.
